Life by Tenn

- Two rarely seen short plays by Tennesee Williams

Tuesday 28th September - Sunday 3rd October, 1pm

"Just one word: Live! So break away quick while you can."

Spirit Theatre breathes new life into these two superb, early one-act plays about hope and freedom, from one of America's greatest playwrights.

Moony's Kid Don't Cry (1934) - A peek into the frustration of a onetime lumberjack who dreams of a better world, as he argues with his wife in the early hours about their unplanned new baby, their relationship and escaping from their monotonous life.

"Poignant poetry...as comic as it is tragic."

And The Case of the Crushed Petunias (1941) - The story of Dorothy Simple, a woman trapped in Primanproper, Massachusetts, who has an unexpected visit from LIFE Inc. which helps her break free from her repressed existence.

"A delightful, charming comedy-fantasy."

Written back in the days when the grocer called him Tom, and the postman delivered him rejection slips, this exciting revival sees the beautifully-crafted interpretation of these two humorous yet moving short plays.

Presenting a portrait of a young Williams, this double-bill shows a glimpse of the author's lighter vision of life, as well as introducing some of the enduring themes from which he would later fashion all his major plays.

An excellent cast and brilliant staging by emerging director Audrey Sheffield, bring these two old yet new plays to life, making this an unmissable production.

"I think life is a process of burning oneself out and time is the fire that burns you. But I think the spirit of man is a good adversary."
