October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Coleridge & Pearce productions are presenting a new play about women affected by breast cancer. ‘Two Week Wait' by Matthew James Wilkinson, based on a story outline by Carly Anna Hughes in collaboration with Anthony Coleridge and Jenny Pearce. It follows the development of friendship between a group of women who meet in the hospital outpatients’ clinic. The disparate group includes an ex-headmistress, a PR executive and a retired housewife, but they form unlikely bonds whilst discussing their experiences. Together they decide to raise money for Breast Cancer Charities by holding a fashion show, but there are several surprises in store for them. Conflict arises on more than one occasion, having cancer does not always improve your temper, and you can get tired of being ‘brave’. But together they work on, and the play ends with a twist on a bittersweet note of optimism. |
