MISSION STATEMENT
The King’s Head is one of the oldest fringe theatres in London. It has done and will continue to be a launch pad for talent and inspiration particularly for young people. Theatre is an art form that can spark and increase self-confidence, expression and inspiration.
Theatre in Education increases confidence, inspires social interaction and encourages different youth groups to mix together.
We are committed to increasing access for young people who may normally not have the opportunity or inclination to go to the theatre. At the same time we are committed to taking theatre into the community – both encouraging young people to perform and bringing theatre to a young audience.
In addition to widening access to The King’s Head, theatre in education increases PSHE and Citizenship skills at all key stage levels.
The King’s Head Education Department exists to complement and reflect the work of the King’s Head Theatre and to produce curricular and socially relevant theatre in which young people can take part, and with which they can actively engage and learn new skills.

THE PROGRAMME
The King’s Head Education Programme runs in two main streams: In- House and In- Schools. Our in-house programme, The King’s Head Youth Theatre, offers term projects, as well as half-term, Easter and summer holiday workshops. It is open to students from local schools and colleges aged 14 – 19, interested in performing, directing, writing and technical departments (stage management, lighting and sound, costume and scenery and props building). Each project culminates in a staging of a production in our lunchtime theatre slot. Workshops are taking place on Sunday mornings (10am – 12noon) for term projects and Sunday to Friday for holiday projects. Performances take part at the end of the term. The King’s Head In-Schools Programme is open to all London schools and colleges. It comprises 1-day comprehensive high-impact workshops aimed at KS4 and KS5 students who are working towards their GCSE and A-levels, which can take place either at schools/ colleges, or at The King's Head. These workshops are designed to help develop practical approach to English/Drama coursework, as well as introduce some basic tools for students to create their own piece of theatre based on themes and topics relevant to them, under direction of professional theatre practitioners. In addition to the range of specialised workshops we have on offer at the moment, we also work closely with schools and colleges on designing specific, tailor-made workshops suited to their particular needs. For more information on workshop contents and how to book, please click on the link below.
We also provide resource packs for teachers, with a view to a group attending the current production suggesting discussion topics for post-show talks with members of the creative team.
All members of the educational and access team have undergone CRB checks and are trained and experienced in creating theatre with young people. We have an extensive Child Protection Policy and are committed to child welfare in all projects.
